Papagena in The Magic Flute (NIDA 2022)

This black velvet and feather dress was made for the character of Papagena in the October 2022 production of The Magic Flute at NIDA (Directed by Clemence Williams). 

The costume is constructed from black velvet with a princess cut bodice and wrap skirt, with full sleeves and a bertha which are all embellished with layers of feathers. The dress was made using a combination of draping and flat pattern making. During this construction I learnt how to work with feathers, including ways to dye them and different application methods.
