This costume was designed, drafted and constructed for a theoretical TV drama of Jane Eyre.
The costume was for the character Amy Eshton, who attends a dinner with Jane Eyre at Thornfield Hall in 1840. Amy Eshton is described as a "naive character, child-like in face and manner, and piquant in form; her white muslin dress and blue sash became her well."
Taking inspiration from this quote I decided to cover blue satin with white muslin for the costume, meaning I needed to construct the two fabrics together which was a learning process in itself.
For this project we spent several months learning to make corsets and underpinnings and then making these gowns to fit over them.
Materials: Satin, Muslin.
Tutor: Cheryl Pike
